To encourage research and scholarly writing, the university will endeavor to make research leave possible for any faculty member who presents a concrete proposal and shows non-university funds fully or partially covering their salary. The university will administer the grant or funds, and the faculty member will continue on their regular salary and perquisites. In certain instances, the university may encourage specific research activities and grant full salary if external funds are unavailable. In addition, specific allocations for research-associated expenses may be granted. Research leave should be applied for at least one year in advance. A faculty member on research leave would normally continue to receive retirement credit for the period on research leave.
