Faculty may be elected to the Faculty Senate or asked to serve on one or more of the duly appointed committees of the university. They should not be assigned such responsibilities to the extent that their teaching or research activities are impaired. Committee assignments are not optional, but faculty members have the prerogative of indicating their preferences, which will be honored insofar as possible. To meet faculty service requirements, full-time faculty are to accrue a minimum of 10 university committee load units in each five-year portfolio period. For portfolios covering a shorter period, committee load units are prorated. A university committee is one that is part of the authorized university shared governance structure. Part-time faculty members who have a faculty appointment are expected to meet faculty service requirements on a prorated basis.
University committee load units are determined by meeting frequency and work required outside committee meeting times.
