Membership

Special Advisor to the President on Belonging and Strategic Planning (chair), Senior Vice President for Academic Administration, Vice President for Student Development, Director of Student Life and Activities, four faculty members selected by the Faculty Senate, one residence hall dean appointed by the Vice President for Student Development, a Collegedale Church pastor appointed by the Church senior pastor, a recording secretary appointed by the chair, and two students appointed by the Student Senate, and up to six members appointed by the Chair. Committee members will serve two-year terms.



Purpose

To help ensure that every student and employee is valued and loved as a unique individual created in the image of God, fully included in a Christ-centered community that nurtures spiritual growth, intellectual development, and genuine relationships. The committee also seeks to foster opportunities that honor the diverse life stories within our campus family and to support ongoing learning that strengthens relationships across our community.

Responsibilities

  1. Promoting Education and Engagement among faculty, staff and students in building understanding, compassion, and meaningful connections
  2. Conducting research and assessment around the theme of belonging
  3. Collaborating with others to ensure Southern maintains a robust Christian culture
  4. Providing strategic recommendations for professional development and modifications to practices and policies as needed
