This course provides an overview of the history of cinema from its dawn in the late 1800s to present. This course is specifically designed to give visual artists critical historical context for their work and will include screenings and analysis of important works of fiction films, documentaries and animations. Key eras including silent cinema (1895-1930), sound cinema (1930-1960), and modern cinema (1960-present) will be addressed.
