Students majoring in French are required to travel abroad for one (1) academic year to conduct studies at Adventist Colleges Abroad (ACA) in Collonges, France. They are also highly recommended to fulfill this requirement during their sophomore year. Students who minor in French are strongly advised to study one semester or one summer at ACA in Collonges, France.
Students declaring a major in French must have completed the following courses prior to studying abroad:
FREN 101 Elementary French I
FREN 102 Elementary French II
In addition, it is highly recommended that students have completed the following courses prior to studying abroad:
FREN 207 Intermediate French I
FREN 208 Intermediate French II
NOTE: French-speaking students who completed secondary education in France or in a French-speaking country are exempt from this requirement.

Academic Year Abroad in France: Study abroad consists of approximately 48 quarter hours (approximately 30 semester hours) which should include at least 5 quarter hours (3 semester hours) of religion in addition to at least 9 quarter hours (6 semester hours) of upper-division courses. Students should take a culture and civilization course sequence equivalent to 3 semester hours. If not taken previously, students must take the equivalent of FREN 207 and 208 while abroad. Students are encouraged to take some courses that fulfill the general education requirements if their progress allows it, and if there is room after the language requirements are met.
