Leading to Licensure K-12
Students seeking teacher certification must meet the State of Tennessee certification requirements as outlined by the School of Education and Psychology. Application for Initial Admission to the Teacher Education Program is normally completed by the end of the sophomore year, following the requirements listed under Admission Procedures in the School of Education and Psychology section of the Catalog.
Admission to Student Teaching requires the completion of an application and all associated requirements. Before beginning the professional semester, students must pass the PRAXIS II licensure exam in Physical Education. A Health Education K-12 endorsement is also available by completing the additional Praxis exam.
Skill development is emphasized in each Pro-Act course (PETH 114–119 and PETH 214–219). A grade lower than a C indicates the need for additional growth in that area requiring the course to be repeated.
Participation in intramural activities is encouraged for all majors and minors as an opportunity to apply skills, stay active, and engage with peers.
